EMPLOYMENTAvailable Position: Laboratory Technician, Part-Time (Posted: 06-04-2007) Responsibilities: Perform and keep records on routine established analytical procedures using basic laboratory techniques and equipment after proper instruction. The Laboratory Technician works under frequent supervision performing standardized, generally repetitive assays and tests. Instructions are well defined, either written or oral, although they may be quite detailed. A wide variety of common laboratory equipment may be employed from one section to another, but they do not require skilled technical knowledge. Speed and accuracy in weighing and measuring are generally more important than analytical understanding. It is equally important to accurately read and record results. The Laboratory Technician is responsible for performing and documenting quality assurance measurements for those materials, equipment, and work surfaces used on a routine basis. He or she is also responsible for sanitizing or sanitary disposal of any equipment, materials, and work surfaces used throughout the course of the day’s work. Daily work activities includes setting up instruments and supplies, sample preparation, diluting and dispensing of samples, reading and recording of results, cleaning up / sanitizing of work area and perform other duties as assigned. The incumbent carries out assignments in a timely, diligent, and safe manner and performs in accordance with Department Operating Procedures.
